I just dropped into this spot to hear John's funny, smart, sweet voice. And found the saddest news of all. My condolences to the whole Buzbee family. You all have such a warm place in our families thoughts and memories.
ReplyDeleteI've known John since 9th grade, and he is the one person that I have come to admire above anyone else I have ever met. I continue to be inspired by his attitude and the way he approached his life. That will not stop. My deepest condolences - jeff
ReplyDeleteMy name is Tony Balandran and I attended KU with John. If memory serves me correctly, he and I were on the UDK staff during the same semester. His skills as a reporter and writer far exceeded mine. However, one day he asked me to help him cover an event on campus for the Kansas City Times, which does not exist anymore. The event was a forum in Hoch Auditorium that included a member of the KKK. It was big news then and even the U.S. State Department sent mediators to Lawrence to violence would not erupt. Members of the Black Student Union disrupted the forum. And there were hundreds of law enforcement that surrounded the auditorium. John had to leave the forum early to file his story while I stayed behind to be his eyes and ears. I know I didn't contribute much to his story, but he gave me a tagline on his story. That was more than generous. And it was my first real acknowledgment in a metro. I will never forget him or that night of journalism excitement. My condolences to his family.
